The Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport has recently inaugurated the renovated VIP lounges, which reopened to the public after expansion works and incorporation of services demanded by passengers. One of those rooms is Pau Casals, located in Terminal 1.
The project tries to articulate a timeless design solution that seeks a balance between the elegant and exclusive aesthetics expected in a VIP lounge, and the functionality and adaptability necessary in an airport. For this, a series of welcoming and comfortable environments have been created that respond to the programmatic needs requested by the client, while offering a relaxed atmosphere to the passenger waiting for their flight to board.
In this context, the spaces have been developed with an open concept in which different environments separated by metal chain lattices from Kriskadecor have been created. These lattices, together with the finishes and furniture, have been designed following clear geometries and straight lines and selecting noble and current materials, under criteria of proven durability and easy maintenance and cleaning.
Regarding the distribution, a series of clearly identifiable routes have been proposed that organize the different environments. The latter are defined both by direct and indirect lighting and the materials according to their use, as well as by the aluminum partitions, which give a great feeling of spaciousness and maintain an optimal level of privacy and relaxation.
The technical solution
The BCN Framed System is an elegant and light frame composed of two profiles fixed to the ceiling and to the floor that keep the chains taut, and two side bars that close the structure. Since both the rails and chains are made of aluminum, the system is very light and reduces load compared to other dividers. In addition, the shape of the chain links facilitates ventilation and air renewal in closed spaces.
The wide customization possibilities of both the chain and the frame favor its integration into any project. In fact, the design of the metallic mesh can be unicolor or reproduce any image, logo, or pattern in high definition thanks to a wide palette of 24 colors in brilliant and satin finishes. In the case of the Pau Casals VIP room dividers, the designers chose the Earth pattern by Claire Davies, included in the Collection catalogue.
