Image adaptation: 1 pixel = 1 chain link

Published on 28-03-2022     |     Innovation

Our curtains are a blank canvas for interior designers and architects. We have incorporated numerous innovation processes throughout our history. Thanks to this, we have developed new technologies that allow us to offer a wide range of applications: from large monochromatic surfaces to designs reproducing any type of image or pattern.  And  we do this by combining colours like in a mosaic. We do not paint or print.

What arouses most curiosity is the adaptation of the slender shape of the chain link to the squarer proportion of the pixel, which, at first sight, could lead us to think that the result is a distorted image. That is where the expert hands of our designers come into play. They manage to restore it to its original shape through careful adaptation work. The result is a perfectly proportionate image. Let us explain this process to you, step by step.

How we do it

1. First, we need to know the measurements of the space to be covered and ensure that the image provided is correctly proportioned.

2. Next, we must select the most suitable link: Kriska or Snina. In this case, the density will always be standard. We only recommend using half-drop density in specific cases, such as gradients that do not require straight lines.

3. Understanding each pixel of the image as a link in the chain, we convert the original image into a metallic surface with a given number of chain strands (pixels in width) and links per strand (pixels in height). Our design team retouches each image to "weave" it as accurately as possible.

4. Finally, we assign a colour from our palette to each pixel/chain link and voilà: we have recreated the image with chain links. We manufacture it, hang it, zoom out, and the magic happens. We can see the perfectly defined image.

Technical details

We analyse each image beforehand to choose the best method to adapt it. A realistic photograph is not the same as one with flat vector shapes or repetitive patterns. We always strive for the best result, whether it be a faithful reproduction of the original, the use of optimal colour combinations, or the achievement of special effects.

The larger the installation, the better the image resolution, as it allows us to reproduce all details in the right colour. However, if you are looking for high definition, we can achieve this with Snina, our smallest chain link.

We can also include up to 15 different colours per design, allowing us to make colour transitions, render light and shadow, and define contrasts with precision.

Use our predefined collections in the Collection Catalogue and adapt them to your space or create a completely bespoke atmosphere using an image of your choice. You create the design; we take care of finding the best way to adapt it.
